Science Experiment Classroom
For this activity, the students experimented the boiling point and the melting point of several materials using a thermal sensor which was connected to the computer. Since the data of the experiments is written in a graph by the computers, the students can concentrate on the change of the data and the materials.
The students firstly learned the way of using the thermal sensor. Since the software which was used for this activity shows every procedure on the screen, the students did not need to learn about it in advance.
Each experiment took only a short time; therefore, the students could deal with many materials for their experiment. They also used more than 2 thermal sensors at one time in order to observe two materials at one time.
The students could think deeply and discuss about their thinking of the data during this activity.

Pédagogie, pedagogy : Science experiments motivate the students' learning. For this activity, the students experiment the boiling point and the melting point of several materials. Since the data of the experiments is written in a graphs by the computers, the students can concentrate on the change of the data and the materials. The teacher can also be a member of the learning group during the experiment.
Apprentissage, learning : The students enjoy doing science experiments. The data of the experiments are easy to be manipulated by the computers. For example, the data can be written in a graph while the students are observing the materials. Therefore, the students can think deeply and discuss about their thinking of the data.
Enseignement, teaching : The teacher should teach the students the skill for using some devices. However, the teacher can be one of the learners during the experiments. Therefore, the students can work on the experiments spontaneously.
Technique : We used the software called "Pasorica" for making graphs using the thermal sensor. The software is easy to use for the students. Therefore, the teacher does not need to be an expert of the use of computers.
Société, society : Four students made a group in order to do the activity. Therefore, they worked cooperatively during the experiment. This cooperative work helped students develop their social skills.
Institution : It was necessary to reserve the computer lab for this activity. Although we used one computer per four students, this activity can be done if one computer is available.
Logistique : The students need to use the devices and materials carefully.
Remarques, remarks : Since the thermal sensor is very small, it can fit in the materials. Therefore, the changes of the temperature are measured accurately.
